這個梗始於 2013 年，有人在 Twitter 創了 @_FloridaMan 帳號，蒐集新聞報導中光怪陸離的佛州男子事蹟，後來在美國鄉民論壇 Reddit / Tumblr 越炒越熱，娛樂圈也拿來當梗了，最幽默的是，川普在 2019 年 10 月把他的居住地址從紐約改成佛羅里達州棕櫚灘的豪宅，大家就把 Florida Man 拿來代稱川普，The Daily Show 每日秀甚至在瀏覽器 Chrome 和 Firefox 上出了擴充外掛，可以把你看到的所有 Trump 自動變成 Florida Man 唷 ^.<
至於為什麼是佛州男子，而不是德州男子、加州男子、紐約男子呢？CNN 與佛州地方週報 Miami New Times 表示，都是因爲佛州的資訊流通自由法案的關係，使得記者可以非常快就拿到警方和法庭公開的詳細報告，可以搶先做吸睛新聞，另外還有一些……似乎是在幫佛州男子越描越黑的論述：

不過說是這麼說，美國還是有個著名的迷因：
